Jawanna’s Playlist
By Jawanna Sawalha
I think the hardest thing about creating a playlist every issue is keeping up with the latest trends in music. We all know music is never constant; an artist can do one thing and then completely switch to something else. People might not always like it, but to the artist it means progression.
If we take Miley Cyrus for example, she was the goody girl on Disney until she took a break to “grow up”, to recently declaring “I don’t give a s–t. I’m not Disney,” and then hit us with the… Oh-so controversial ‘Bangerz’ album. My honest opinion… the album is probably the best pop album of the year!
2014 is going to be a big one I believe. Local and international artists seem to want to expand in ways you cannot imagine. Bieber is retiring and giving us a break from his annoying music, and he’s giving the chance for better people to show on the scene. People like The Weeknd and Angel Haze (who are my favorite right now) have already released their amazing debut albums. Local artists like ‘Qabeela” are finally releasing their album very soon, and people like underground artist Boikutt still captivates me with each song on his new album. Many more regional artists are expected to release new or debut albums, and I think that will be the highlight of my year.

My Must Listen-to Album of the Month (English)
Angel Haze – Dirty Gold
Angel Haze shook the music world when she covered Eminem’s ‘Cleaning Out My Closet’. She took the beat of this famous song and twirled it around voila it was like a brand new song. For someone who is only 21 years old, she has been through some tough shitt!! Her debut album ‘Dirty Gold’ is one hell of an album; very deep, full of pain and emotions, and she is one good rap artist. I am head over heals for this album even though I am not a fan of modern age rap, but Angel Haze is someone who won me over the day I herd her Eminem cover.

Adonis – Men Shou Bteshki Beirut
The thing that makes Adonis so unique in my opinion; is the fact that they seriously know how to mix western and eastern melodies together, in a way that makes you want to listen to them over and over again. Their second album is just beautiful…I love it.
